Travelling Light Theatre Company have recently completed a two-year creative learning project - Light Up School Learning – a project which aimed to develop arts-based teaching in schools, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Teacher Development Fund.
The project involved Travelling Light artists working alongside teachers from five primary schools across Bristol, and demonstrated the value and learning potential of using drama-based activities to support curriculum learning in primary schools.
Drama-based activities were found to improve pupils’ wider learning, with improvements in confidence, oracy, emotional literacy and wellbeing, as well as enhanced recall of knowledge and concepts. Teachers also reported improved writing outcomes.
